Join Stephanie Gardner as she shares her travel adventures in Greenland to run the Polar Bear Challenge: a marathon and a half on Greenland 's ice sheet. Stephanie traveled from Copenhagen, Denmark to Kangerlussuaq, Greenland; a town of 500 people originally built in 1941 by the United States as a military base, later turned into the country's international airport. The area has since been used for radar detection during the Cold War, a weather station, and scientific research on glaciers and ice cores. We'll also hear about Ilulissat, a coastal town in Western Greenland which has a very high concentration of icebergs, and is home to many working sled dogs. Stephanie will share some information she learned about Greenland's history, politics, language, and culture, while running through this stunning landscape.
